Hi, my name is Evan Sharp.
I'm a teacher, a technologist, and what's in between.

There is a crux of theory and expertise where the "21st Century Education" paradigm meets practical implementation.
I've made a career out of making the exciting new ideas in pedagogy work using modern technology.

Bringing it all together...

Education people and IT people often approach the world differently. They communicate differently and approach challenges from different angles. Having a foot in both worlds makes me a bridge.

As a classroom teacher in a variety of subjects, I have the experience of a frontline instructor. The day-to-day needs and wants of teachers and administrators is where I come from and is always top of mind. Meanwhile, I'm also a full-stack developer and a real IT systems geek. From network hardware to brochure websites, I've been there professionally too.

This makes mine a comprehensive approach. No matter if the engagement is professional development for a group of teachers or system-migration for an entire school, the other end of the spectrum is always in view. This leads to more focused solutions, less follow-up revisions, and stronger results.

Let's get specific...

Three areas of expertise to solve problems and facilitate growth.

Curriculum Development

B.C.'s new Provincial Curriculum is a bold and dynamic vision of education. See how school programs can make use of its flexibility and depth.'

Purposeful academic programs take a student to a specific intellectual destination. This destination reflects an institution's mission & values and is the guiding star for the journey. Course design derived from a subject-level scope and sequencing model greatly enhances both student growth and adherence with a specific pedagogical philosophy.

I provide wholistic program planning that leverages the remarkable flexibility built into B.C.'s new curriculum to implement a certain educational approach that can compliment the classroom-level individuality and creativity of teachers while keeping an institution’s offering coherent and consistent.

Blended subject pathways, asynchronous inquiry-driven units or courses, and school-within-a-school schedule models are just a few of the solutions I have first-hand experience designing and implementing.

Assessment Practice Audit

Measurement and reporting are important to the whole learning community. Empower instruction and improve communication with practices and tech that fit your culture.

As the old adage goes: If you value it, assess it! Assessment frameworks are the cornerstone of academic programming and need to be as dynamic and robust as the learning activities and curriculum themselves. They bring alignment across classrooms but need to support teacher creativity as well. Meanwhile, an assessment framework is the most important aspect of expressing and maintaining a pedagogical philosophy.

I review or create assessment practices to bring harmony, consistency, and intention to student performance communication. I provide teachers with clear and practical tools for giving feedback and developing grades that are meaningful and useful to students and parents.

Professional development, quantitative and qualitative evaluation conversions, scale development, and software solutions are just some of the ways I have modernized or expanded assessment frameworks in the past.

SIS / IT Consultation

Information Systems can do more than contacts and attendance. Find out how powerful technology can improve efficiency and enable great learning.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic*; and the purposeful implementation of the magic we have at our disposal can have stunning results. From heightened student engagement in new programming to savings of time and money in administrative work, there are technological solutions to problems schools don't know they have.

I evaluate systems and processes against IT and education best-practices to make recommendations based on what technology can do today. Security, reliability, and optimization come first, followed by innovation and upgrades that enable new learning opportunities.

Device ecosystems, Student Information Systems, IT policy-writing, network setup and administration, and classroom tooling are all areas where I've helped schools get the most from their IT.
